Laurea DLL provides a wide range of equipment and resources.

There are different categories of equipment, each with their own purposes and features.

Laurea has a selection of equipment that broadens the spectrum of possible projects for the students. This selection can also help students familiarize themselves with modern technology that most people don't have at home.

Robots

We have four different robots at Laurea. The most well-known and commonly used among them is Pepper. All of the robots are briefly introduced below.

Pepper Robot featured in Laurea’s Digital Living Lab

Pepper

is the world’s first social humanoid robot that recognizes faces and basic human emotions. Designed for interaction, it communicates through speech and a touch screen, with 20 degrees of freedom for natural movement. It supports dialogue in 15 languages and uses sensors and perception modules to engage with people.  Pepper is fully programmable and open for development.

The Omron LD Mobile Robot featured in Laurea’s Digital Living Lab

The Omron LD Mobile Robot

is a self-navigating Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR). It's designed for dynamically moving material in challenging environments that may include confined passageways as well as dynamic and peopled locations. It's a logistic robot that can carry about 80kgs of weight.

Laurea's Stormtrooper Robot

can be considered as a security robot. It recognizes people, and if it doesn’t, it asks for a password. If the person is unable to tell the password, the alarm of the robot goes off, alerting other people of an intruder.

Laurea's Emma Home Service Robot

Emma Home Service Robot

is a smart service robot that assists elderly users with reminders, voice commands, and video calls. It adapts to individual needs, offers companionship, and supports daily routines—enhancing safety, independence, and connection in both home and care environments.

Laurea's TurleBot3 Waffle Robot

TurleBot3 Waffle

is a compact, ROS-compatible mobile robot developed for academic and research applications. It features integrated LiDAR, IMU, and camera support, enabling autonomous navigation, SLAM, and object detection. Its modular architecture allows for easy customization, making it a versatile platform for robotics development, prototyping, and system integration tasks.

Drones

Laurea has three different drones from the producer DJI, available for various projects. Each of them is explained separately below.

The DJI Mini 2 is a compact, beginner-friendly drone with strong performance and excellent image quality. Paired with the DJI Fly app, it allows users to edit photos and create professional-looking videos easily.

The DJI FPV Combo includes video goggles for an immersive first-person view. It offers high-speed flight, a quality camera, and the ability to record and edit footage via the DJI Fly app.

The DJI Mavic 2 is designed for professional use, ideal for tasks like surveillance and search missions. It supports interchangeable tools like speakers and searchlights, making it highly versatile for advanced users.

VR (Virtual Reality) Technology

Laurea Digital Living Lab offers hands-on opportunities for simulation, co-creation, and immersive user experiences using VR headsets. Two different VR headsets are available, each briefly described below.

is a wireless virtual reality headset designed for immersive experiences in gaming, learning, and collaboration. It features a Snapdragon XR2 processor, 6GB of RAM, and high-resolution LCD displays (1832 × 1920 per eye) with a 90Hz refresh rate. With built-in spatial audio, four tracking cameras, hand tracking, and 6DoF, it offers full mobility and ease of use in both personal and professional settings.

Laurea's Meta Quest Pro VR

The Meta Quest Pro VR Headsets

is a high-end mixed reality headset designed for professional and enterprise use. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ processor, 12GB RAM and advanced optics with QLED pancake lenses for improved clarity. The headset supports full-color passthrough, eye and face tracking, and enhanced hand tracking, enabling complex spatial computing tasks, collaboration, and content development in mixed reality environments.

can be integrated into projects, such as creating interactive floorplan presentations. Using high-performance computers and sensory equipment like headsets and gloves, VR simulates real-world environments. While popular in gaming and entertainment, it’s also used for training pilots and surgeons. 

3D Printing

Laurea offers students the opportunity to utilize a 3D printer. It enables the creation of physical prototypes for studies, projects, and innovation work. The printer supports learning by turning digital designs into real, tangible models. A brief description of the 3D printer is provided below.

The FlashForge Inventor 3D printer

is ideal for creating small prototypes or spare parts for various projects. It uses fused filament fabrication, melting plastic filament layer by layer to form physical objects. The material cools quickly after extrusion, making the finished item safe to handle right after printing.

Photography

Laurea Digital Living Lab is equipped with professional photography gear for creating high-quality photos and videos for various projects. Users can adjust exposure, tone, and brightness, using a neutral background to capture content. It’s ideal for planning, creating, and publishing content for school or client work, and also serves as a great space to learn and practice photography skills, even for beginners. Laurea includes a fully equipped podcast studio for student use. The studio supports audio content creation, enabling students to record, edit, and produce podcasts for educational and non-educational project-based purposes. Guidance is available when needed.
