This accessibility statement applies to the Laurea Digital Living Lab website: https://www.digitallivinglab.com.

Commitment to Accessibility

Laurea Digital Living Lab is dedicated to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including individuals with disabilities. We strive to provide an inclusive online experience and are committed to continually improving the accessibility of our website.

Applicable Legislation

This website is governed by the Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019), which enforces the EU Web Accessibility Directive (2016/2102) in Finland. The Act applies to public sector organizations and publicly funded research and development projects and requires their digital services to be accessible to all users. To comply with this legislation, websites must meet the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, specifically Level A and Level AA success criteria.

Conformance Status

The Laurea Digital Living Lab website is currently partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This means that while many of the key accessibility criteria have been met, some parts of the website do not yet fully comply with the standards. We are actively working to identify and resolve these issues as part of our ongoing commitment to digital inclusion.

Known Accessibility Issues

Based on an evaluation of https://www.digitallivinglab.com, the following accessibility issues have been identified:

  • Image Alternative Text: Some images do not include meaningful alt text, limiting access for screen reader users.

  • Link Text: Several links use non-descriptive text like “Read more,” which can be unclear for users navigating with assistive technology.

  • Keyboard Navigation: Certain elements may not be fully accessible using only the keyboard.

  • Color Contrast: Some text elements on the site lack sufficient color contrast between text and background. This does not meet the minimum contrast ratio required under WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3 – Contrast (Minimum). As a result, users with visual impairments may have difficulty reading low-contrast content.

  • Heading Hierarchy: The website does not always follow a logical heading hierarchy. For example: some heading levels are skipped (e.g., jumping from <h1> to <h3> without an <h2>), and inconsistent use of heading tags affects navigation for screen reader users. These issues can make it harder for assistive technologies to interpret page structure and for users to understand content organization or navigate quickly by headings.

We are actively working to address these issues and enhance the accessibility of our website.
